Jesus is the Lord of the harvest (Matt. 9:37-38)

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”  – Matt. 9:37-38

Good morning!  Today we see that Christ is referred to as the Lord of the harvest.  Christ is pictured as the farmer who has grown this crop of people who are ready for the gospel.  Farmers are people who take great pride in what they grow and produce.  They do not like seeing the produce wasted because of all the work that they put into it.  This gives us a picture of Christ and how he longs to see everyone to faith because they are all created in his image.

Also, when harvest season comes around there is usually a short window of when the crop is ready to be picked and when it begins to spoil.  There is this sense of urgency that brings in mind the end times.  We do not know how long we will have to harvest the fields but we want to do it before that window closes.  Christ gives us instructions on how to handle the problem about there being too few laborers.  We need to pray.  We need to ask God to send forth more people to spread the Gospel and bring people to Him.  We also need to make sure that we are willing to be a laborer as well.  Maybe God has put people in our lives that we can share His Gospel with?  Today pray that God will send people out to harvest the field and ask God how you can be used to bring people to Him.
