Jesus is the Living Water (John 7:37-38)

On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ ”  – John 7:37-38

“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.   – Isaiah 55:1

We see in this passage and in John 4:10-11 Jesus offers people ‘living water’.  Jesus is referring to Isaiah 55:1 and how He is the fulfillment of that promise.  He can offer people a living water that would satisfy them completely.  Christ isn’t talking about actual thirst and hunger.  He is talking about a longing in the soul that we are all trying to fill.  Sometimes we do that with food, material things or relationships.  These things can satisfy us but it is temporary and leaves us wanting more.  Christ is offering us a satisfaction that will never end and will always be there.  What are things in your life that you go to, to feel satisfied?  I know I am guilty of turning towards TV or other things to “rest” in, instead of turning to Christ.  How can you today turn to Christ to be filled with His living water?  Instead of turning to your normal comforts turn to Christ and drink from His living water so that you can be truly filled and satisfied.
